Title: A Kiwi Camino

Author: Erika Barden

Author note: Erika and her family are parishioners of St Patrick’s Cathedral.

Losing their 15-year-old daughter in the Pyrenees wasn’t the ideal start to the Bardens’ Camino.

Travelling for 12 weeks through 10 countries and walking over 1,000 kilometres with three kids was bound to have some challenges though.

From Singapore’s bustling markets to reconnecting with family in Germany, Ireland, and America and exploring Italy, it was an epic adventure. The historic Camino de Santiago was their ultimate highlight. Overcoming sunstroke and stomach ache, bedbugs and blisters, the Bardens displayed determination and resilience and returned home with a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures: food, family, faith and good footwear.
